Second Hand AC Buying Checklist: What to Check Before You Pay
By RentingGo · · 5 min read

Why a checklist matters
A second hand AC can cost far less than a new one, but two units of the same tonnage can be in very different condition. A few simple checks before you pay protect you from a unit that cools poorly or needs repairs soon after installation.
What to check on the unit
Ask to see the actual unit, not a catalogue photo. If you cannot visit, ask for photos and a short video of it running.
- Cooling: the air from the indoor unit should feel noticeably cold within a few minutes.
- Compressor noise: a steady hum is normal; rattling or loud knocking is not.
- Gas: ask whether gas was checked or refilled and whether that is included in the price.
- Body and coils: look for rust, bent fins and cracked panels.
- Remote and accessories: confirm the remote works and what is included.
Get the terms in writing
Warranty, return terms and installation charges vary by seller and by unit. Confirm each one on WhatsApp or in writing before you pay, so there is no confusion later.
